Busy evening for Maugansville and suspect caught.
On 8-28-2020 Maugansville firefighters had a busy evening. The events started with a Personal Injury accident on Leitersburg Pike where squad 13 assisted Longmeadow firefighters. No further information at this time. While companies were dealing with the wreck Longmeadow got called for a automatic alarm at the Martins food market. An alert customer witnessed a person pull the alarm and run out of the store. However this bandit picked the wrong night to pull a false fire alarm. In the parking lot was a firefighter from Longmeadow fire company who heard the alarm and saw the suspect running down Pennsylvania Ave. Nearly at the same time Maugansville firefighters were alerted wires down in the same area. With Longmeadow firefighter still hot on his heals the crew from engine 13-2 noticed the chase and as Longmeadow’s firefighter tackled the suspect to the ground engine 13-2 arrived on scene. The crews held the suspect until the Washington County Sheriff officers arrived. The Maryland State Fire Marshals office was on scene and charges will be filed. In Maryland pulling or making a false fire call is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or a fine of $5,000.00 or both.
Lots of excitement but not done yet as I was writing this story Maugansville was transferring to Leitersburg station 9 to cover for them while they remove a person from High Rock.
Great Job by all companies and remember Crime Don’t Pay.
