MGVFC Receives Generous Grant
The Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company (MGVFC) on Friday, March 16th, 2018 received a generous grant in the amount of $1,725 from the Community Foundation of Washington County. This funding will be used by the fire company to purchase a Sparky the Fire Dog costume. The costume will assist company personnel in the delivery of essential life safety educational programs geared to towards the youth in our communities.
Through these programs, the MGVFC reaches over 1,000 students annually in the fire companies first due area. The fire company provides these programs to public schools, home schools, daycares, fire station visits, and public events hosted by the fire company.
The company had previously owned a Sparky the Fire Dog costume that proved very effective in communicating fire prevention messages, especially to the smallest community members, however, the costume reached the end of its life cycle and a new costume was unable to be purchased by the fire company.
Members of the MGVFC are thankful for the support the Community Foundation of Washington County has given them. During a time of increasing costs and decreasing donations, volunteer fire companies must often make tough purchasing decisions. Generous grants from community organizations provide an opportunity for the fire company to continue vital, positive outreach programs that may otherwise not be fulfilled.
Thank you Community Foundation of Washington County!
